The Britannia Hotel and Our Biltong

The Britannia Hotel opened its doors in 1879 in Durban, South Africa.
In the 1970s, seasoned hotelier Hym Saacks, established the Britannia Hotel as more than just a place to stay, it was a sanctuary of warmth, generosity and hospitality.
The heart of the Hotel would beat with the laughter and energy of Hym's grandchildren, who found joy in exploring every nook and cranny.
Hym's grandchildren would help in the kitchen, selling homemade pies, tantalising bunny chow (South African fast food dish consisting of a hollowed-out loaf of white bread filled with curry), crispy chips and Biltong to the guests and local workers of the area.
As time passed, these children grew into adults, carrying with them the cherished moments shared at the Hotel. Inspired by their past, Britannia Biltong became a reality, a culinary homage to Hym, and his unwavering belief in the unifying power of good food.
Today Britannia Biltong offers a taste of nostalgia and a thread that binds generations together. Celebrate the simplicity of life's joys with each bite, and savour the lasting impact of shared moments with loved ones.
Britannia Biltong is a journey through heritage, flavour and the enduring spirit of togetherness.
